It's been a long time coming, but Eli Roth is finally returning to the director's chair. After a long hiatus that saw him playing actor and producer to the works of others, Roth returns and is taking us deep into the Amazon for his next demented slice of hell with The Green Inferno. His much-anticipated loving ode to the Cannibal sub-genre.
The Green Inferno follows a couple of grad school student activists as they venture deep into the heart of the Amazon in order to protest the logging of the rainforest. However, the situation turns grim when their plane crashes and burns. Leaving the unwitting grad students isolated and captured by a dangerous cannibalistic tribe.
The film was originally set to open in the United States on September 5th. However, it's release date was pulled by the distributors Open Road, leaving the release date in limbo. Here in Australia though, the film is set to premiere at this year's Sydney Underground Film Festival.
